PROCEDURE FOR WINDOWS
Faint windows early in the day, or you may have to leave them open all night to dry. Oil-based paints take several hours to dry. Stick masking tape around the edges of the glass, leaving a Y in (2 mm) gap between the frame and window; paint will overlap onto the glass, protecting the frame against water damage.
In order, paint the rebates and crossbars (1), cross-rails (2), hinge edge and hanging stile (3), meeting stile (4), and frame (5).
PAINTING SASH WINDOWS
Reverse the top and bottom frames. Paint the meeting rail (1), vertical bars (2), lower runners and frame (3), crossrail and underside (4). Once dry, reverse the frames. Paint a cross-rail (5), vertical bars (6), other cross-rail (7), remainder (8), soffit, upper runners, behind cord (9), frame (10).
